Privacy Policy

GearReel ("we", "us") is operated by Silk and Chips SL, [registered address], Spain (tax ID [CIF]). This policy explains what we collect when you use the GearReel app and website, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address (used to sign in with a one-time code), username, name, bio and profile photo.
- Optional profile details you choose to add: weight, height, surfing level and preferred units.
- Content you post: photos, videos, links, captions, ratings, comments, likes, follows and reports.
- Basic technical data: device type, app version, and logs needed to keep the service secure and working.
We do not collect your contacts or your precise location, and we do not use your camera or microphone except when you pick a photo or video to post.
How we use it
- To run GearReel: show your posts, profile and follows, and personalise your Home feed.
- To keep the community safe: review reports, remove content that breaks our rules, prevent spam and abuse.
- To contact you about your account (for example, sign-in codes and important changes).
- To improve the app, using aggregated statistics.
We do not sell your personal information.
What is public
Your username, name, bio, profile photo, optional profile details, posts, comments and follows are public and may be shown on gearreel.com and shared through links. Your email address is never public.
Who we share it with
We use trusted providers to run the service, under contracts that protect your data:
- Supabase (database, storage and sign-in)
- Mux (video processing and playback)
- Resend (sign-in emails)
- Vercel (website hosting)
Some providers are in the United States. When data leaves the EU we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect people's safety.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is open. If you delete your account, your profile, posts, comments, likes and follows are deleted, and your photos and videos are removed from our storage. Backups are overwritten within 30 days.
Your rights
You can view and edit your profile at any time, and delete your account in Settings → Delete account. Depending on where you live (for example the EU/UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may also have the right to access, correct, delete or port your data, and to object to or restrict some uses. Write to privacy@gearreel.com. EU residents can also complain to their data protection authority (in Spain, the AEPD).
Legal bases (EU/UK)
We process your data to provide the service you signed up for (contract), to keep GearReel safe and improve it (legitimate interests), to meet legal obligations, and — where we ask — with your consent.
Children
GearReel is not for children under 13, and in the EU you must be at least 16 or have a parent's consent. If we learn that a child has created an account, we will delete it.
Changes
If we make important changes we will tell you in the app. The date at the top shows the latest version.
